What is the difference between ETA and Next stop?

In Vehicle follow-up > Real-time information, different fields provide information on the "Estimated time of arrival (ETA)".

To avoid confusion and wrong expectations, it is important to clarify the different solutions.

ETA

The ETA values are based on the calculation in the navigation software of the on-board computer. The position of the vehicle is calculated every minute, but the new ETA message will only be sent to the server if there is a difference of minimum 15 minutes compared to the previous calculation.

Available ETA fields:

  • ETA (incl. resting)

  • Previous ETA (incl. resting)

  • ETA status

  • ETA latest update

  • ETA destination

Consult Vehicle follow-up > ETA for more information.

Next stop

The Next stop feature will also calculate an estimated time of arrival, but it does not require navigation software on your on-board computer.

In this case, the ETA is calculated on the server (not on the on-board computer) every 15 minutes (by default).

The next stop can be:

  • Created in TX-CONNECT in the Map / Vehicle follow-up module, or

  • Linked to planning: In this case, it is linked to the planned time of arrival configured for a planning item (cf. Planned time of arrival). On the on-board computer, a driver executes the planning items (places/trips) and selects the next stop in the question path (depending on the instruction set). Based on that information, the back office software will calculate the estimated time of arrival to the next stop selected by the driver.

Note: The source of the next stop can be viewed in the "Source next stop" column (Driver / User / Planning).

Available next stop fields:

  • ETA next stop (incl. rest times)

  • Name next stop

  • Next +/-

  • Next stop latest update

  • Position of next stop

  • RKM to next stop

  • Source next stop

  • STA next stop

Consult Vehicle follow up > Next stop for more information.
