ROUTE CALCULATION |
This window will open if you click starting point, via point or end point in the drop-down menu of the address box or if you click the Route calculation button
in the toolbar. If the latter option is chosen, addresses still have to be inserted, whereas they are already filled in if the former option is used. By clicking the Search address button in the toolbar and clicking the question mark o
f the address box, addresses can be added to the list.
Another possibility to open the "Route calculation" window is by clicking the button Set as route point in the "Search address" screen, as shown on the next image.
If the address list in the "Route calculation" window gets too long, vertical scroll bars will be provided. The number of addresses that can be entered is not limited. Some addresses are too long to fit into the list. In this case, horizontal scroll bars will be provided.
In the middle of the "Route calculation" window, an up and down arrow are provided (see fig. below). If the user selects an address from the list and clicks the up or down arrow, the address will be moved up or down. Moreover, its colour will change depending on the colour of the address above or below the selected address. If, for example, 'Ter Waarde, Ieper' is selected and moved up the list, it will become green and will thus be the starting point. 'Veldstraat Gent', which was the original starting point, will then become yellow and will be the via point. 'Avenue Louise' in Brussels (in red) is set as the end point here.
Next to these two arrows, a Delete button is provided. If this button is clicked, the address that is selected in the list will be removed but will still be visible on the map. However, the system will not take this address into account when calculating the route.
Under the arrow and cross buttons, there are three checkboxes:
- Avoid toll roads
- No motorways
- Avoid ferries
Ticking one of these boxes (or all) means that the calculated route will not contain any toll roads or motorways (or none), nor will the route go over the sea.
In the bottom right corner of the window, a Calculate button is provided. If you click this button, the system will calculate the route from the starting to the end point via certain addresses, if any were entered. The route will be calculated according to the order in which the addresses were entered in the list. The route itself is marked by a thick blue line and the map is zoomed in to an appropriate level in order to entirely display the route on the screen (see fig. below).
In the bottom left corner of the "Route calculation" window, the number of kilometres between the starting and end point is displayed, as well as the estimated time (based on truck speed) necessary to get from the starting to the end point. The time is displayed in hours and minutes.
In case the route goes over the sea, the number of kilometres and the average time the ferry needs to cross the sea are shown.
